Role Summary:
The Data Governance Consultant will serve as the subject matter expert supporting the Finance Department in aligning data governance standards with BCBS239 requirements. The role requires deep expertise in data governance, regulatory reporting, project execution, stakeholder engagement, and consulting methodologies within a banking environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as a data governance subject matter expert supporting the Finance Department to align data governance standards with BCBS239 requirements.
• Execute data governance activities by translating high-level objectives into actionable tasks and tangible deliverables.
• Identify and define Key Data Elements (KDEs) and assess their criticality across finance and risk domains.
• Inventory End User Computing (EUC) tools, assess risks, and determine criticality.
• Analyze and document data aggregation processes across source systems and reporting layers.
• Support the implementation and adoption of data lineage tools, concepts, and frameworks.
• Leverage prior data governance use cases, methodologies, and best practices to accelerate delivery.
• Define project milestones, governance structures, roles, and responsibilities.
• Combine consulting project management methodologies with the bank's operational approach to create a practical execution plan.
• Establish collaboration frameworks including role allocation, handover points, and documentation to ensure seamless transition into execution.
• Collaborate with Finance, Risk Management, Data Management, IT, and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and delivery.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and management-level materials for senior and executive stakeholders.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in data governance or data management roles within a financial institution, preferably in banking.
• Consulting firm experience is mandatory.
• Strong understanding of BCBS239 principles and data governance frameworks.
• Proven capability to work in complex, multi-stakeholder environments involving business, IT, compliance, and external vendors.
• Experience collaborating with Finance, Accounting, or Risk Management teams on internal or regulatory reporting.
• Strong documentation skills with proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Familiarity with data lineage concepts and tools (e.g., Collibra or equivalent platforms), and a solid understanding of finance/accounting processes, regulatory reporting, and related systems is advantageous.
• Strong project management capabilities including progress tracking, issue and risk management, stakeholder engagement, and preparation of reports or presentations for senior management or executive audiences.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
