Position Overview

This role supports the full lifecycle of pipeline procurement and fabrication, including items such as line pipes and subsea components. The engineer will oversee welding activities at critical stages, ensuring that manufacturing practices and supplier documentation meet all technical and quality expectations. The position leads the resolution of welding-related quality issues, coordinates with suppliers on corrective actions, and verifies the adequacy of their responses. Additionally, the role contributes to developing and maintaining a traceability framework for welding activities, consolidating all relevant quality records required for procurement acceptance.

Key Responsibilities

Develop a thorough understanding of internal technical and quality requirements.

Participate in meetings with suppliers and internal teams to clarify expectations and ensure alignment on quality standards.

Prepare and present the welding and quality portions of kickoff meetings.

Review supplier submissions such as inspection plans, manufacturing schedules, FAT procedures, and inspection reports.

Address and resolve technical discrepancies or conflicting comments with suppliers, including initiating clarification meetings when needed.

Support the planning and timely execution of Procurement Inspection Meetings (PIM).

Organize and lead PIM sessions as the main facilitator.

Confirm readiness for inspection notifications and relay them to the relevant inspection coordinator.

Assess third-party inspection reports and provide comments or required follow-up actions.

Issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) when deviations are identified, track supplier responses, and ensure timely submission of root-cause and corrective action proposals.

Review and validate manufacturer data records and final as-built documentation packages.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Master's degree in welding engineering, or a bachelor's degree in materials or metallurgical engineering combined with IWE/EWE certification.

Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in welding, fabrication, or construction within oil & gas or petrochemical projects (e.g., pressure vessels, tanks, mechanical fabrication, pipelines or piping).

Strong technical background in major welding processes, materials selection, and fabrication practices commonly used in the industry.

Advanced expertise in welding high-strength pipeline steels and Corrosion Resistant Alloys (CRA) used in upstream and midstream applications.

Deep understanding of material degradation mechanisms such as corrosion, fatigue, fracture, creep, and hydrogen embrittlement, as well as related laboratory testing.

Demonstrated ability to prepare welding procedures, select consumables, conduct failure analyses, troubleshoot welding defects, and qualify welding procedures.

Practical experience working with international engineering and fabrication standards (ANSI/ASME, ASTM, API, BS, EN, ISO, MSS), with familiarity with QatarEnergy standards considered an advantage.
