The Human Resources Assistant Manager is responsible for the implementation and administration of the school’s development and assessment strategy as it relates to support staff, professional technical, contractor, and other employees. This team member is expected to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and employee wellness initiatives and to assist with any and all general HR processes.

Onboarding, Orientation, and Departing Process Facilitation

  • Assist with the design and development of faculty and support staff onboarding and orientation programs to ensure that all new hires are versed in relevant SAS policies, procedures and operating guidelines;
  • Conduct exit interviews with departing employees, consolidate, communicate key themes and action plans to address opportunities;

Professional Development

  • Manage the appraisal process for support staff and professional technical employees;
  • Provide input on supervisory procedures and practices for all employees, as needed;
  • Evaluate professional development needs, suggest and create learning strategies, implement/source training programs, and work to identify employee professional development pathways and training opportunities for all employees;
  • Manage contracts and relationships with vendors and consultants
  • Evaluate and implement plans to meet individual and organizational development needs
  • Develop appropriate training materials including online modules, handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia and visual aids;
  • Schedule employee briefings and learning sessions, develop registration procedures, ensure that the venue is setup, ensure that employees are notified, and coordinate other practical elements involved with planning professional development activities
  • Assess the success of development plans, study follow-up evaluations/assessments, prepare related reports, and recommend improvements
  • Liaise with Skills Development Fund (SDF) and other organizations to pursue and make available training grants and learning opportunities.
  • Oversee the maintenance of a database containing records of professional development initiatives
  • Coordinate any required child safeguarding, employee harassment, or other relevant training needs for substitutes, coaches, consultants or other employees, as needed
  • Career Development for Instructional Assistants and support staff
  • Collaborate with the Office of Learning to create career pathways to help Instructional Assistants and other employees to grow and develop.
  • Establish fair, workable and consistently administered policies and procedures around opportunities for career progression and development.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • Support and guide the recruitment team to help create a brand that appeals to diverse applicants, disrupts unconscious biases, and considers safeguarding controls
  • Review workplace policies and procedures and ensure these are all inclusive and develop schoolwide diversity, anti-racist and other relevant policies as needed.
  • Work closely with the Office of Learning on DEI initiatives.
  • Lead all reviews related to schoolwide employee allegations, grievances, or other concerns.

Working on Wellness (WOW) Support

  • Support Employee Wellness Coordinator and serve as informational resource for the WOW program
  • Prepare and accept payments for services engaged by and rendered for the WOW program.

Human Resources Processes

  • Assist the HR team with any and all HR related process management. This includes but is not limited to HR relationship management serving all employees schoolwide, transaction processing and data analytics
  • Support the HR team with the processing of employment and dependent passes, employee background checks, employee medical insurance and retirement savings plan related enquiries, leave related needs and any other staff related HR needs.
  • The HR Assistant Manager will be adaptable and willing to step in and support the team and schoolwide employees in a variety of different areas.  
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Good interpersonal and English communication skills, both written and oral
  • Current knowledge of effective learning and development methods
  • Familiarity with learning platforms and practices
  • Experience in project management
  • Strong IT skills with knowledge in Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and related applications with an interest and ability to learn new applications
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Possess positive work attitude, professionalism and initiative with an ability to work
  • A self-starter who is proactive and comfortable presenting and facilitating learning experiences, workshops and meetings.
  • Collaborative and provides assistance as necessary to other team members and supervisors
