Job Description - Low Code Engineer
What you get to do in this role
The ServiceNow App Engine Low Code Engineer is responsible for designing, configuring, and delivering custom applications on the ServiceNow Platform to help organisations streamline operations, automate workflows, and achieve measurable business outcomes. You will be the functional and technical expert across customer engagements, ensuring solutions follow ServiceNow leading practices and are built for long-term scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Solution Design
- Participate in workshops to understand current-state processes, gather requirements, and define future-state workflows.
- Translate business needs into clear technical specifications for App Engine and related platform capabilities.
- Advise customers on leveraging App Engine, Integration Hub, Flow Designer, and low-code governance best practices.
- Lead Proof-of-Concept (POC) and Proof-of-Value (POV) initiatives to validate solution approaches.
Technical Development & Configuration
- Design and develop App Engine applications using App Engine Studio, data models, ACLs, UI Builder, and workspace components.
- Build and configure Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies, UI Actions, Flow Designer, and automation workflows.
- Develop custom experiences, Portals, and widgets using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and AngularJS (where applicable).
- Implement integrations using Integration Hub, REST/SOAP APIs, MID Server, and custom connectors.
- Ensure technical architecture follows platform guardrails, performance best practices, and secure-by-design principles.
Platform Implementation & Delivery
- Configure, implement, and support modules such as ITSM/CSM/HRSD/ITOM/App Engine based on project scope.
- Perform unit testing, support SIT/UAT, conduct code reviews, and ensure alignment with governance frameworks.
- Support platform upgrades, patching, cloning, production releases, and post-deployment enhancements.
- Maintain and enhance CMDB, catalog items, request fulfilment workflows, and application-level integrations.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Advisory
- Collaborate with product owners, developers, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure solution alignment.
- Provide guidance on documentation including technical specs, requirement workbooks, and design artefacts.
- Bring insights from customer engagements to provide feedback to product teams and drive continuous platform improvement.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay current with ServiceNow technologies, especially App Engine, automation, AI, and platform capabilities.
- Mentor junior developers and promote a culture of best practices, platform governance, and maintainable development.

To be successful in this role, you have:
Experience & Technical Skills
- 3-5+ years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript, Glide API, server- and client-side scripting.
- Practical experience with App Engine, custom applications, scoped applications, Flow Designer, and Integration Hub.
- Experience with ITSM / CSM / HRSD / ITOM / CMDB or enterprise workflows.
- Experience developing portals, widgets, or custom UI (HTML/CSS/AngularJS).
- Strong understanding of API integrations, REST/SOAP, and MID Server.
- Prior experience in secure or regulated environments (Public Sector/BFSI) is a plus.
Certification Requirements
- Required: ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
- Preferred: Certified Application Developer (CAD)
- Certified Implementation Specialist (App Engine or relevant workflow)
- Additional micro-certifications (Integration Hub, Flow Designer, etc.)
