Basic Purpose/Accountabilities:

Phillips 66 is seeking an experienced Naphtha Trader to execute trading strategies primarily within our global naphtha cargo business. The Global NGL Trading team is actively involved in building a high-performing organization by identifying and capturing trading opportunities and working across the entire NGL barrel to generate profit both regionally and globally as part of the Global NGL Trading team.

Working as part of the Global NGL team under the guidance of the Global NGL Trading Manager, the Naphtha Trader will be dedicated to trading naphtha and will contribute to providing offtake to Phillips 66 Sweeny fractionation hub, the second largest fractionation hub in the US. This is an individual contributor role that will involve contributing to the Global NGL Trading team in realising annual business and profit objectives while ensuring adherence to Phillips 66 core values, code of business conduct and ethics.

Primary Responsibilities:

Collaborate with traders in our Houston, London, and Calgary offices to proactively identify, develop, and implement trading strategies linked to global arbitrage opportunities
  • Provide offtake for Phillips 66 US NGL fractionation facilities, as well as third-party volumes
  • Trade speculatively in physical markets and use financial/derivative trading to add value
  • Capture regional opportunities through spot and term purchases and sales
  • Develop and maintain counterparty relationships to conclude naphtha transactions, expand our market presence, and increase trading potential
  • Continuously challenge existing strategies to explore new trading ideas
  • Work and share information cross-functionally with LPG, Origination, and Clean Products regional and global teams
  • Work with the marine department, operations, and other logistics to optimize freight
  • Work closely with Risk Management to comply with risk management policies to ensure proper controls and return thresholds are aligned with corporate goals
  • Work with mid and back-office support teams to ensure accurate reporting of positions
  • Contribute to and leverage data analytics to enhance market insights and trading efficiency
  • Capture deal details accurately into our Deal Capture System for accurate reporting

Basic / Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • 5+ years of energy industry experience, including at least 3+ years of naphtha trading experience

Preferred Skills

  • Entrepreneurial skills. Comfortable trading in an "blank sheet of paper" environment
  • Experience trading naphtha in the Asia Pacific region, including both HVN and LVN grades
  • Knowledge of global naphtha trade flows and in-depth understanding of arbitrage economics
  • Strong negotiation skills with an analytical mindset and the ability to collaborate, share market intelligence, and work in a high performing team
  • Strong understanding of macro trends, geopolitical risks, and supply/demand fundamentals affecting naphtha markets
  • Understanding of pricing and volume exposures and tools/strategies for managing risks
  • Knowledge of naphtha cargo operations and marine markets including regional naphtha logistics and terminals and petrochemical markets and economics
  • Results oriented with the ability to think and act decisively and independently under changing circumstances.
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and communicative (speaking and writing) skills and often with persons of another business culture.
  • Proficiency in trading software such as Bloomberg, ICE Connect, WebICE
  • Advanced computer spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to speak and read Japanese, Korean, or Chinese Mandarin is considered beneficial
