Dymon Asia is seeking a highly analytical and resourceful Investment Analyst to join our Commodities team, supporting a Portfolio Manager focused on the oil and gas markets. The ideal candidate will play a key role in generating actionable insights through deep fundamental research, data analysis, and market monitoring, contributing directly to the team's investment decisions in physical and financial energy markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Market Research & Analysis:
Conduct comprehensive research on global oil and gas supply-demand dynamics, storage trends, inventory levels, refinery throughput, OPEC policy, shale activity, and geopolitical developments. - Model Building & Forecasting:
Develop and maintain robust models to forecast production, consumption, and pricing trends; track key variables such as rig counts, flows, crack spreads, and freight rates. - Data Management & Tools Development:
Build and automate data pipelines, dashboards, and analytics tools using Python, SQL, or Excel to support real-time monitoring and strategic positioning. - Investment Idea Generation:
Work closely with the Portfolio Manager to identify relative value, arbitrage, and macro-driven opportunities in futures, options, and structured energy products. - Macro & Cross-Asset Collaboration:
Analyze and interpret macroeconomic indicators and their impact on the oil and gas complex; collaborate with other sector and macro analysts across the investment team. - Reporting & Communication:
Present data-driven insights, market views, and trade rationales clearly through written reports and team discussions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in energy research or trading support at a hedge fund, investment bank, commodity house, or energy firm.
- Solid understanding of physical and financial oil & gas markets (WTI, Brent, nat gas, LNG, refined products, etc.).
- Proficient in data analytics and modeling (Excel, Python, SQL); familiarity with Bloomberg, Kpler, Genscape, or Platts is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and interpret large datasets to generate investment insights.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to operate independently in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment.
Preferred Attributes:
- Passion for global energy markets and macro-driven trading.
- Exposure to commodities trading desks or experience with derivatives structuring.
- Creative thinker with a strong work ethic and intellectual curiosity.
- Familiarity with ESG trends in the energy sector is a plus.
