Job Description:
As a research engineer for Electrochemical Surface Treatments and Coatings, you"ll play a vital role in developing and optimizing surface treatment and coating processes. This role requires a domain knowledge of surface/interface chemistry/physics, process design and experiment work for surface treatments and coatings, and characterization techniques to execute and timely deliver the R&D projects with high impact outcomes.

Job Description:
As a research engineer for Electrochemical Surface Treatments and Coatings, you"ll play a vital role in developing and optimizing surface treatment and coating processes. This role requires a domain knowledge of surface/interface chemistry/physics, process design and experiment work for surface treatments and coatings, and characterization techniques to execute and timely deliver the R&D projects with high impact outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Optimize Processes: Dive into the world of chemical and electrochemical processes, including surface cleaning, stripping/etching, electro/electroless plating, activation/passivation, electropolishing, and chemical/electrochemical conversion coatings.
- Collaborate and Apply: Work closely with cross-functional teams to apply surface treatment and coating technologies to real-world industrial applications, ensuring they meet critical performance requirements.
- Hands-on Experimentation: Conduct experiments to improve surface properties like corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and interface enhancement using chemical and electrochemical processes.
- Analyse and Characterise: Utilise advanced surface and coating characterization techniques (e.g., optical microscopy, water contact angle goniometry, profilometry, SEM, EDS, XRF) to analyse surfaces and coatings to ensure they meet specifications.
Scale-Up Support: Assist in scaling up lab processes to production environments, ensuring quality and performance are maintained. - Problem Solve: Use your critical thinking skills to overcome challenges and find innovative solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Some experience or coursework related to chemical and electrochemical surface treatments and coatings (cleaning, stripping, electroplating, electroless plating, activation/passivation, conversion coatings).
- Familiarity with surface characterization techniques (e.g., optical microscopy, water contact angle goniometry, profilometry, SEM, EDS, XRF).
- Ability to conduct experiments and troubleshoot in a lab setting.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- A problem-solving mindset and a passion for learning.
- A strong desire to learn and grow in the field of surface treatments and coatings.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with literature reviews on surface treatments and coatings.
- Ability to translate industry problems into research topics.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to surface process technologies.
- Hands-on experience with advanced equipment and techniques in a research or industrial setting.
