Job description

We are looking for a research engineer to join the fusion-energy team in the newly formed Future Energy Acceleration & Translation (FEAT) Programme, A*STAR. FEAT"s plasma physics team focuses primarily on plasma diagnostics, microwave and radiofrequency (RF) heating and current drive (H&CD), and exhaust, with an emphasis on solving the challenges faced by future fusion energy systems. The new hire is expected to contribute to research in magnetic confinement fusion and to maintain our in-house codebase. While the job has a primarily computational focus, there is leeway for analytical and experimental research, should there be interest.

Key Responsibilities:

• Understanding the physics of fusion plasmas and plasma diagnostics.
• Working closely with the rest of the team to develop, validate, deploy, and maintain analysis codes to better interpret diagnostics data from fusion experiments.
• Supporting local and international collaborators in fusion research.
• (Optional) Candidates with academic inclinations will be encouraged to contribute to publications.

Job Requirements:

• Strong background in physics or engineering; preferably possessing a BSc in Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering (Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Software, Environmental).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as, but not limited to, Python, C/C++, Fortran, and Julia.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt and work effectively as a member of a team, self-motivated with a high degree of professional integrity.
• Familiarity with fusion diagnostics or plasma physics is a plus but not required.
