Job Descriptions:

We are looking for a research engineer to join the fusion-energy team in the newly formed Future Energy Acceleration & Translation (FEAT) Programme, A*STAR. FEAT's plasma physics team focuses primarily on plasma diagnostics, microwave and radiofrequency (RF) heating and current drive (H&CD), and exhaust, with an emphasis on solving the challenges faced by future fusion energy systems.

The new hire will contribute to the design and development of hardware for microwave diagnostics for fusion plasmas, such as profile reflectometry and Doppler Backscattering (DBS). As a Research Engineer, you will work closely with FEAT scientists and collaborators to design, assemble, and test hardware components for microwave diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the design and development of hardware components for microwave plasma diagnostics, including microwave systems, antennas, and signal processing electronics.
  • Build, assemble, and test prototype hardware, ensuring compliance with design specifications and performance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of design processes, test results, and modifications.
  • Support the integration of DBS hardware into fusion research devices and participate in on-site testing and commissioning.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in diagnostic hardware and fusion research technologies.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related fields; specialisation in microwave engineering would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of microwave system design and integration, including waveguides, antennas, and signal processing electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with testing, calibration, and maintenance of microwave equipment will be highly valued.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and data acquisition systems, programming, and high-speed signal processing (e.g., Python, C++, LabVIEW) preferred.
  • Excellent communication (spoken and written) and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with fusion diagnostics or plasma physics is a plus but not required.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
