We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer for gas pipeline projects. The role involves providing expert engineering services for the design, specification, and implementation of I&C systems for gas transmission pipelines, including pipeline control, stations and metering facilities.

Responsibilities include developing P&IDs, loop diagrams, control narratives, specifying instrumentation (e.g., PLCs, RTUs, SCADA), and ensuring compliance with industry standards (ISA, IEC, API). The engineer will support project phases from feasibility study, design to commissioning, working closely with clients, contractors and vendors to deliver tailored solutions.

The role requires experience in automation, control systems, and instrumentation for pipeline systems, along with proficiency in software such as SPI (Intools) and AutoCAD. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of relevant experience, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to client and project management. Occasional site visits may be required for project assessments and commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Engineering:
  • Develop and review I&C design documents, including P&IDs, loop diagrams, control narratives, and I/O lists.
  • Specify and select instrumentation, control systems, PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, and DCS for gas pipeline systems.
  • Perform control system design, including integration with existing systems and automation solutions.
  • Prepare technical specifications for instrumentation and control systems, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards (ISA, IEC, API, etc.).

Client Coordination & Support:
  • Provide technical consulting to clients, including developing detailed engineering solutions and recommendations for I&C systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost estimations, tender technical evaluations, and detailed design reviews. Coordinate with clients and vendors to resolve technical queries, provide progress updates, and review project scope and deliverables.

Project Execution:
  • Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, reports, schedules, and resource plans. Review vendor proposals, conduct technical evaluations, and lead FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests), SATs (Site Acceptance Test). Review EPC Contractor's documents.
  • Ensure that all design work complies with safety standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Assist commissioning.

Commissioning & Handover:
  • Provide engineering support during the commissioning phase, including pre-commissioning, system testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with the preparation of operation manuals, as-built documentation, and system handover to clients. Support commissioning activities, ensuring smooth system integration and performance.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes related to I&C for gas pipelines.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and interns within the consultancy.

Qualifications, Experience, and Personal Attributes
  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 5-10 years of experience in I&C engineering for gas pipeline or oil & gas projects.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level), and automation technologies.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems is preferred. Familiarity with industry standards (ISA, IEC, API) and pipeline design codes. Proficiency in engineering software such as SPI (Intools), AutoCAD, and control system programming platforms (PLC/SCADA).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client-facing interactions.
  • Positive work attitude with a proactive, team-oriented approach; strong communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Certifications:
  • Certified Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE or TÜV).
  • ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP).
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification (optional).

Work Environment: Primarily office-based within the consultancy firm, with occasional travel to client sites for project assessments, vendor meetings, and commissioning support.

Exposure to multiple project phases, from initial feasibility to design, commissioning, and closeout.
