Our tunnel team of more than 100 skilled experts has a complete set of high competencies that, combined with local presence and experience, allow our enthusiastic professionals to take on the most complex projects anywhere in the world. We have experience with all types of tunnels and underground constructions involved in everything from motorways, metros, railways to rainwater, energy and power, and we cover all aspects of a project's life cycle from idea, concept and design to operation and maintenance.
With our latest projects won in Singapore and our growing project list, we are looking for a senior tunnel engineer who can be part of our ongoing Singapore Metro (MRT) projects such as Cross Island Line and Downtown Line as well as supporting our wider global project in Denmark, Germany, and Canada, Västlänken rail tunnel in Gothenburg and Fraser River immersed tunnel in Vancouver.
In this position, you will be part of our team that designs tunnels and underground structures. Your primary task is to be an effective part of a highly professional team that provides consultancy, project management and detailed engineering services on Singapore tunnel projects. There will be good development opportunities in the job.
In a day-to-day manner you will be responsible for:
To contribute with technical input to tunnel projects within at least one of the following areas:
• TBM tunnelling and segment lining
• Mountain mechanics, stability of rock tunnels, design of ground anchors
• Projecting of sprayed concrete lining
• Ground reinforcement
• Geotechnical and hydrogeological assessments
• Preparation of technical calculations, specifications and reports and drawings required for the design, ensuring that the design is buildable and that the design and assessments are in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards, labour and environmental regulations and industry best practice.
• Perform checks on design calculations and drawings performed by other engineers
• Work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural engineering practice with collaboration between project members from COWI offices located in different continents.

To succeed in this position, we believe you possess significant analytical skills and have a solid understanding of the interaction between soil and structures. In addition, you are self-motivated, good at collaboration and possess good skills of voice and written communication. You plan, coordinate and implement your projects and tasks independently or have a great motivation to learn it.
In addition, you have:
• More than 7 years relevant working experience in the tunnel and underground sector
• MSc in Engineering or similar with education in geotechnics and soil structure interaction or similar relevant to tunnel design. Higher level degree (PHD) is an advantage
• Solid geotechnical and structural understanding, especially within the design of tunnel structures
• Experience and interest of the techniques involved in tunnel projects, including TBM tunnelling, sequential excavation method (SEM/NATM), mountain tunnel design / mountain mechanics or micro tunnelling.
• Experience in designing segmentation guides for large diameter bored tunnels and deep shafts and sprayed concrete liners for tunnels (NATM/SCL method) and cut and cover tunnels.
• Robust FEM design experience using LUSAS is essential. Experience using other FEM software, Plaxis 2D or 3D, Rock science, FLAC, Sophistic are preferred.
• Site supervision for tunnelling projects is preferred
• Experience with Revit or Civil 3D
• International design experience is beneficial
Possess effective reporting and communication skills in English in both verbal and professional form (to communicate effectively in a Scandinavian language too, as many of our projects are in the Scandinavian market) A great commitment, is curious, willing to learn and contribute in a design team and can work independently
