Research focus on environmental metagenomics viral surveillance:

Uncovering viral diversity (eukaryotic viruses) in environmental associated microbiomes.

Isolating and studying viruses for potential surveillance.

Responsibilities:

• To process synthetic and real environmental samples (e.g., wastewater) for benchmarking of protocols, validation of novel viral genomes and documentation of experimental workflows.
• Provide technical and wet-lab support to the team?s research activities.
• Follow analytic procedures and instrumental operation guidelines, plan and execute experiments independently.
• Analyze data, prepare and present progress reports, and manage research data and notes.
• Maintain lab inventory and coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors or suppliers
• Engage in literature review and research discussion.
• Assist the team with the maintenance of smooth and safe operation in the working environment.
• Ensure project deliverables are met in a timely manner and to the highest standard.

Requirements:

• Degree in Biological Science and Life Science disciplines or related fields.
• Training in microbiology, genetics, molecular biology and statistical analysis is preferred.
• Experience with qRT-PCR and next generation sequencing (NGS) technology (specially Oxford Nanopore Technologies), bacterial and viral culturing, fundamental molecular biology techniques.
• Minimum one-year laboratory experience is required. Candidates with relevant internship/project experience are welcome to apply.
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Highly motivated and committed to laboratory work.
• Ability to multitask, work independently and also as part of a team.
• Good communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
