The Engineering Assistant is responsible for executing whole or assigned parts of translation projects related to membrane fabrication, module fabrication and system level validation of locally and globally sourced novel membrane technologies using in-house pilot test equipment and large scale external pilot validation platforms.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist Project team in executing membrane translation projects, through hands-on participation in activities including but not limited to chemical mixing, membrane fabrication, pre and post treatment of membranes, module assembly, system integration and pilot testing.
  • Equipment operation, data collection and reporting for on-field pilot systems leading to technology evaluation on the in-house as well as large demonstration plant related to water treatment and gas separations.
  • Devise preventive maintenance procedures and plan for all equipment, in accordance to equipment requirements as recommended by vendors / suppliers.
  • Implement preventive maintenance work independently and/or with a team
  • Work with a team of engineers and chemists to streamline membrane scale-up process with pilot system integration.
  • Contribute to Center's Environment, Safety and Health activities.


Requirements:
  • Diploma/ITE in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical with relevant experience in water industry, particularly related to membrane manufacturing and water treatment.
  • Experienced with preventive maintenance procedures for large equipment e.g. tanks/ovens/machineries with metal/rotating parts in contact with heat, water and chemicals, specifically for water treatment applications
  • Preferably with relevant experience in operating membrane fabrication equipment and/or water treatment system.
  • Excellent self-initiative and hands-on capability to monitor, maintain and improve equipment condition.
  • Experienced with process preparation, operation, and troubleshooting.
  • Trained in or familiar with health, safety and environment (HSE) practices/protocols, e.g. safety risk assessment, LOTO etc.
  • Good communication, oral and written skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with ability to perform duties independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to liaise with contractors and vendors for maintenance work.
