A Research Engineer position is available in the SP-NTU Joint Lab, School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The Research Engineer (Software Engineer) will work on a joint research project between NTU and the company Singapore Power (SP). The research scope includes failure statistical modelling and survival analysis for power equipment (transformers, switchgears and cables), data analytics of fault data using AI/machine learning methods, reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) study using Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) to enhance reliability in a sustainable manner, and Failure mitigation optimization.

Job Description:

• Design and develop prototype software for failure statistical model and future failure rate prediction, with a research team:

1) Build failure rate model

2) Deal with limited data

3) Project future failure rate & number of failures per stratification

• Software coding, test and manual writing
• Learn and understand failure statistical models and data analytics methods (e.g., AI/machine learning methods) and processes to predict failure rates and remaining useful life of equipment (transformers, switchgears and cables), developed by other team members
• Learn and understand data analytics methods (e.g., AI/machine learning methods) and processes to deal with limited or incomplete data, developed by other team members

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Engineering, or related disciplines
• A plus if having expert knowledge and project/research experience in statistical modeling and survival analysis, or AI and machine learning, or data analytics, or power system modeling and failure analysis
• Strong skills in programming and software development
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good communication and writing in English
• Good teamwork awareness
• Strong responsibility for research and work
