Automation Engineer - Testing & Commissioning

Contract Duration:

This is a 12-month contract position, with potential for extension based on project requirements and performance.

Role Overview:

As an Automation Engineer specializing in Testing & Commissioning, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless integration and operational readiness of critical electrification projects. You will take ownership of ETTS/TSSS testing activities, coordinating daily workflow at site while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety (EHS), and project schedule. This role involves managing complex railway power supply projects from communication and control architecture design through to system commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate daily testing and commissioning activities on-site for electrification projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines and specifications.
  • Take full ownership of ETTS (Emergency Traction Tripping System) and TSSS (Traction Substation SCADA System) testing activities.
  • Manage railway power supply projects, encompassing communication systems, control architecture design, prototyping, integration testing, and comprehensive system commissioning.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments, clients, system-wide contractors, and subcontractors to arrange and execute site activities.
  • Actively participate in weekly Works Train Notice Meetings to secure track access and ensure testing is executed on schedule and in compliance with testing standards.
  • Attend Operator / LTA Track work Access meetings and LTA manpower planning meetings (e.g., for C853e), and submit necessary SDAR and TAR documents to gain track access for CCL/NEL works.
  • Support the Project Manager in the preparation of essential project documentation, including Method Statements, Risk Assessments, step-by-step work plans, and other required paperwork.
  • Develop and maintain systems and platforms for weekly project progress monitoring, providing timely feedback to the project planner.
  • Supervise and support installation teams in carrying out Addition & Alteration (A&A) activities on-site, fostering a self-motivated and efficient work environment.
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing and managing work schedules and programs.
  • Undertake ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Manager, contributing to the overall success of the project.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork, ensuring smooth project completion through collaborative efforts.
  • Be willing to work extended hours, including night shifts (engineering hours) and public holidays, as project demands necessitate.
  • Exercise strong decision-making capabilities to resolve on-site challenges efficiently.
  • Provide support to other project teams as required, fostering a cohesive project environment.
  • Apply expertise in Station RTU, PLCs, and cybersecurity principles relevant to industrial and electrification projects.
  • Coordinate closely with project, interfacing, and T&C teams, as well as external interface partners.
  • Maintain strong professional relationships with clients and vendors.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field (e.g., Diploma/Bachelor in Electrical & Electronic or Mechanical field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in automation, PLC, and SCADA systems, with a strong preference for experience in electrification or railway projects.
  • At least 3 years of direct working experience in ETTS/TSS Electrification projects is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in MRT electrification projects is highly advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Siemens PLC, SCADA, and HMI technology, including practical experience with software such as S7-300/400, ET200SP, SIMATIC STEP7, TIA Portal, and S7-1500.
  • Experience or knowledge of Siemens Protection Relay systems (e.g., SIPROTEC, Sitras MDC, PLC).
  • Familiarity with Emergency Traction Tripping System (ETTS) SIL system.
  • Experience with third-party PLC, SCADA, and software platforms is beneficial.
  • Proven skills in testing and commissioning PLC systems, including interfacing with AC/DC switchgear and traction power station equipment.
  • Strong competency in PLC software development.
  • Preferred knowledge and experience in network technologies such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, MODBUS RTU, PROFIBUS, and PROFINET.
  • Added advantage if you possess expertise in cybersecurity, system architectures, and industrial security.

  • Strong understanding of functional safety principles, particularly IEC 61508.
  • Advanced knowledge of compliance with internal and external laws and regulations, ensuring ethically sound business practices.
  • Basic understanding of contract formats, practices, and policies.
  • Awareness of information security best practices and labor laws relevant to daily work.
  • Proficiency in Global Business English, both written and verbal, for clear international communication.
  • A team player willing to collaborate and support colleagues for project success.
