Job Summary

Responsible for the execution of piping design and process engineering in the chemical and petrochemical industry. This role involves preparation of schematic drawings, design calculations, and project coordination in accordance with client specifications, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices. The successful candidate will oversee end-to-end project delivery from design through testing and commissioning.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute piping design projects for process industry pipelines, including preparation of schematic drawings, isometrics, and layout designs.
  • Execute projects based on main contractor requirements, ensuring alignment with project scope, timeline, and quality standards.
  • Design and specify chemical piping systems including material selection, insulation requirements, and corrosion protection based on customer specifications and process conditions.
  • Assign materials, equipment, and manpower resources for project execution; coordinate with procurement for timely material availability.
  • Develop and review Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and piping general arrangements.
  • Perform pipe stress analysis, hydraulic calculations, and sizing for chemical process piping systems.
  • Specify pipe supports, expansion joints, and special piping components for various service conditions.
  • Conduct Addition & Alteration (A&A) works for existing plant facilities, including tie-in studies and brownfield modifications.
  • Maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance with hazardous material handling requirements and HSE regulations.
  • Participate in and coordinate HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
  • Oversee testing and commissioning activities including hydrostatic testing, pneumatic testing, and system handover.
  • Manage payroll and administrative functions for assigned project team members.
  • Prepare material take-offs (MTO), bill of quantities (BOQ), and project cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with clients, main contractors, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Review and approve vendor documents, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
  • Ensure compliance with international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, PED).
  • Perform other functions as assigned by the Department Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in piping design and process engineering within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or chemical process industry.

Skill Requirements

  • Proficiency in piping design software such as AutoCAD, PDMS, SP3D/Smart 3D, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of pipe stress analysis software (CAESAR II preferred).
  • Familiarity with process simulation tools (HYSYS, PRO/II) is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of piping materials, specifications, and piping class development.
  • Knowledge of insulation systems for chemical piping (hot, cold, and personnel protection).
  • Good understanding of chemical process operations and hazardous area classifications.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, contracts, specifications, and international codes and standards.
  • Strong project coordination, planning, and resource management skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
