JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Executive Director of GIS, the successful candidate will develop and lead an independent research program aligned with GIS's strategic priorities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A) Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead an independent research program aligned with GIS's strategic priorities, particular on developing genome technologies for target discovery and clinical translation.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams within GIS and A*STAR.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to scientific training.
  • Secure competitive external funding and contribute to intellectual property development.
  • Publish high-impact research and engage in scientific outreach.


B) Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in institutional initiatives and strategic planning.
  • Support the development of collaborative research proposals.
  • Contribute to the scientific community through peer review and conference participation.
  • Involve in the development of AI strategies for drug development and target discovery.


C) Decision Making Authorities
  • Define research direction and priorities for the lab.
  • Make decisions on experimental design, resource allocation, and team structure.
  • Approve research outputs, including publications and grant applications.


JOB REQUIREMENTS/REQUISITES

A) Educational qualifications

  • PhD, or equivalent in biological, genomic, or computational sciences.


B) Relevant Experiences

  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead innovative, team-based research.
  • Experience in securing research funding (preferred).
  • Prior success in intellectual property creation (advantageous).


C) Specific Skills

  • Expertise in genomics, computational biology, or molecular biology.
  • Ability to design and execute complex research projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.


D) Other Skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to mentor and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strategic thinking and adaptability in a dynamic research environment.


E) Training

  • Postdoctoral training in a relevant field (preferred).


F) Other Relevant Information

  • The role offers access to cutting-edge platforms and collaborative opportunities across A*STAR.
  • Candidates will be expected to contribute to both scientific excellence and translational impact.
  • Occasional travel for conferences, collaborations, or fieldwork may be expected.
  • Engagement with industry and clinical partners may be expected.
