Assistant Manager, Safety and Health
We seek a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the Assistant Manager for Safety and Health role.

Job Description

The Safety and Health Assistant manager ensures a safe and compliant workplace within the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Biotechnology. This position is vital in reducing risks, protecting employees, and upholding the university's commitment to a secure and productive environment by overseeing safety programs and enforcing regulations

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate health and safety policies and procedures to foster a strong safety culture within the university's research labs.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to ensure compliance with NTU's safety and health management systems specific to research environments.
  • Conduct safety training, audits, licensing, fire drills, laboratory inspections, and risk assessments, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) tailored for laboratory safety and office environments.
  • Organize and promote safety campaigns to enhance awareness and adherence to safety practices within the research labs.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on safety and health issues to laboratory personnel, researchers, and students, and implement necessary preventive and corrective actions.
  • Liaise with government agencies (e.g., NEA, SCDF, SPF) on regulatory compliance, including auditing and licensing, ensuring adherence to safety standards.
  • Investigate laboratory accidents and incidents, implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence and ensuring the safety of all involved.
  • Serve as the safety representative and coordinator, facilitating communication with NTU stakeholders to share and coordinate safety information and initiatives.
  • Manage contracts for vendors related to laboratory facilities and ensure the effective maintenance of research environments.
  • Administer card access systems for authorized entry to laboratories and offices, ensuring compliance with security protocols.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the School's management.


Requirements
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or related field), Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as Fire Safety Management (FSM) will be beneficial but not mandatory,
  • Certifications in first aid, CPR and other relevant emergency response training are beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Two to five years of proven experience in safety management, with a track record of increasing responsibilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, industry best practices, and emergency response protocols.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to convey safety information effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
