Assistant Manager, Health and Safety

The School of Biological Sciences is seeking an experienced candidate to provide effective and top-notch Occupational Health & Safety services for both staff and students. The main objectives are to comply with health and safety regulations/ legislations, enhance the well-being of employees and students, and minimize the occurrence of occupational incidents and health issues. The appointee will be responsible for advocating best practices in occupational safety and health throughout the School and ensure the efficient and safe operation of the School while prioritizing the health and safety of all its members.

Responsibilities
  • Formulate, implement, and evaluate new and existing policies, programs and services for building a strong safety and health culture within School community and ensuring compliance to relevant regulations.
  • Conduct safety training on offices and laboratory-based facilities for staff and students.
  • Manage and lead the School in developing and implementing safety and health management systems.
  • Provide advice to School management, staff and students on safety and health issues and ways to minimize or eliminate risks and hazards.
  • Liaise with governmental bodies and regulatory agencies on health and safety related matters.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of offices, research laboratories and their supporting facilities.
  • Conduct investigations for accidents and incidents that take place in offices and laboratories.
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned by supervisor.


Requirements
  • A recognized degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Environmental) or Public Health.
  • Experience in workplace safety in offices & laboratory-based faculties/research institutes.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in Safety & Health Management, preferably at the corporate or institutional level.
  • Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) would be advantageous.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Independent, meticulous and reliable.
  • Able to multitask under given timelines.
  • Pleasant personality with a positive mindset
