About the Role

We are seeking a Volunteer Engagement Assistant Manager/Manager to lead and grow our skills-based volunteering programme. This role plays a key part in advancing access to justice by ensuring the right volunteer skills are recruited, supported, and deployed to meet community needs in a sustainable and impactful way.

You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to design effective volunteer systems, strengthen engagement, and foster a strong volunteer culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow and sustain skills-based volunteering within the legal community.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through targeted outreach, partnerships, events, and presentations.
  • Identify and develop new volunteer opportunities in collaboration with community partners and government agencies.
  • Assess volunteer requests and match suitable volunteers based on skills, experience, and organisational needs.
  • Oversee the full volunteer lifecycle, including recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Design and implement volunteer engagement, retention, and recognition initiatives, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • Manage volunteer communications to ensure timely and effective dissemination of opportunities and updates.
  • Track volunteer satisfaction and feedback to continuously improve the volunteer experience.
  • Leverage IT systems to track volunteer hours, activities, and outcomes, and produce reports and impact insights.
  • Monitor emerging trends and risks, and develop mitigation and continuity plans to support programme sustainability.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth volunteer deployment and to build a strong, volunteer-friendly culture.

Who We're Looking For
  • Experience managing volunteers or programmes, preferably in the non-profit, legal, or community services sector.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, particularly with professional volunteers.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  • Comfortable using data and systems to track performance and demonstrate impact.
  • Organised, proactive, and committed to advancing access to justice.

Requirements

Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience in coordination of volunteer programmes and schemes, programme development, and management of volunteer resources.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Marketing / Business Management / Mass Communication / Community Development from a recognised University.

Competencies
  • Appreciation of the value of volunteers in PBSG's mission of ensuring access to justice.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to connect with staff and volunteers.
  • Able to work and lead in a team setting, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive and resourceful in problem solving with a responsible attitude.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and work under pressure, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented.
