Job Description:

Job Purpose

Passionate, skilful and proficient science communicator with a strong interest and understanding of science and technology, as well as strong competencies in writing and producing content for NUS News and social media platforms, and driving external publicity.

Duties & Responsibilities

The candidate will:

- Research, write and edit scientific news, articles and features

- Develop and implement strategies to publicise new university-wide initiatives and policies, as well as corporate, educational, research and enterprise achievements relating to science and technology, among other areas of interest and developments

- Identify, develop and produce content for various platforms, including the University's online news portal and social media, where experience and passion in writing will be an advantage

- Create different types of content and angles to enhance a story, e.g. videos, visuals and infographics

- Pitch stories to and manage queries from local and international news media, and facilitate on-site interviews, photography and filming

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and at the same time be a good team player. He or she needs to be mature, proactive, organised, meticulous, able to multi-task as well as work within tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Good university degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) preferred. Candidates with qualifications in communication studies, journalism, marketing or related disciplines and possess strong competencies in understanding complex scientific information, theories and practices will also be considered.
  • Strong news sense and passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in science communication, public relations agencies, in-house corporate communications, journalism or related areas
  • Possess an excellent command of English, with strong editing and writing skills
  • Experience in media relations and strong media contacts will be an advantage
  • Experience and interest in video production and photography will be an advantage
