Job Description

The RoleStaff Nurse / Senior Staff Nurse:
Provide high quality nursing care to patients in the department based on appropriate protocols and guidelines. To assist doctors in interventional services.

Nurse Manager:
To provide day to day effective management of the nursing function of the Clinic and to provide supervision and development for staff in the provision of quality of patient care in a safe and conducive environment.

In addition to the above for senior nursing positions:
Provide nursing leadership under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, in the effective delivery of optimal clinical care. Apply nursing strategies and lead operational implementation of those strategies. Responsible for staff development and professional growth of nurses to deliver safe, competent and specialized patient care of the highest quality. Engage in systems-level thinking and its application to a variety of situations and contexts. Lead initiatives of Nursing in collaboration with the nursing team, other heads of departments, doctors, patients, families and external parties. Lead & coordinate the organization & is the executive representative for decision making purposes out of hours. Typically the role includes single-point accountability for a portfolio of critical operational importance.

Key accountabilitiesStaff Nurse / Senior Staff Nurse:
a) Provide nursing services to patients according to protocols and standards.
b) Participates in quality improvement projects to ensure continuous improvement in quality of work.
c) Maintains current trends in nursing practice and participation in the competency training program.
d) Ensures customer satisfaction and follow through of these issues.
e) Demonstrates competency in nursing core skills and specialized skills.
f) To supervise staff nurse who are providing care to patients.

Nurse Manager:
a) Set goals and objectives to meet changing needs of patient services in consultation with the clinical team.
b) Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care, including documentation and make appropriate changes in nursing care delivery.
c) Arrange for and coordinate investigative procedures, treatment procedures for patients.
d) Assist and chaperone the doctor during patient’s review and examination.
e) Provide patient counselling, advice and education to patients and their families.
f) Be the role models for Parkway Leadership behaviours.
g) Have overall responsibility for the orientation, induction process and nursing competency assessments of new staff. It also includes conducting performance appraisals and identifying nurses’ competency levels, learning needs and plan for career progression.
h) Exercise care in handling of medical equipment, medical and housekeeping supplies. Ensure that the medical and pharmaceutical supplies are sufficient.
i) Periodically review and if necessary, update procedures in line with the current practice.

In addition to the above for senior nursing positions:
a) Effectively communicate the company vision, mission & values to the nurse population.
b) Assess competency mix across organization out of hours & facilitate any allocation changes requested by Nurse Managers.
c) Provide leadership in the recruitment, selection, development and retention of nurses in partnership with the nursing team.
d) Conduct performance evaluation of Nurse Managers.
e) Ensure that the system clinical policies and procedures are in line, thus guiding nursing practice.
f) Lead, facilitate and promote patient's clinical safety and risk management practices amongst nursing staff, facilitate hospital occurrence reviews by promoting open reporting in examining clinical incident data. Lead critical incident debriefing.
g) Lead & facilitate nursing & cross-functional committees & projects, ensuring there is robust Workplace Safety & Health culture within the team. Serve as an agent of change and innovation and drive service quality initiatives.
h) Act as mentor, coach & counselor to Nurse Managers. Role model the desired leadership & team behaviors.
i) Foster sound professional collaborative relationships with members of the clinical leadership/management team and the public.

Qualifications & Experience

a) SNB Registered Nurse Practising Certificate.
b) Diploma In Nursing.
c) Post Basic Specialty Certificate / Advanced Diploma In Nursing.
d) Nursing Administration / Management / Advanced Leadership Diploma / Degree Qualification.
e) Master Qualification (desirable).
Additional Informationa) At least 5 years’ relevant nursing experience in acute hospital setting.

In addition to the above for senior nursing positions:
a) At least 4 years' experience in management/leadership in a acute hospital setting.
b) Demonstrate desired leadership behaviour and alignment with vision, mission & values.
c) Experience in Quality and Risk Management.
d) Experience in coaching, counselling and manpower planning.
e) Exceptional interpersonal skills.
