The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The work entails working with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (tuberculosis) in a Biosafety 3 environment including animal work.
Purpose of the post
We seek an enthusiastic and self-motivated research assistant to join our team working on mechanisms of drug resistance and bacterial fitness in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. We are specifically interested in recruiting a research assistant with laboratory background in the Life Sciences. Previous experience working with mice would be highly advantageous. The position involves primarily working in a Biosafety 3 environment with tuberculosis.
Main duties and responsibilities
The person will be responsible to run the day to day operations of the lab in the Biosafety 3 lab. As such, she/he is expected to maintain cultures of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, perform drug susceptibility testing, basic molecular biology functions such as DNA, RNA and protein extraction as well as support other research scientists in the BSL3. The work could also involve working with tuberculosis infected mice. For this job the person must be comfortable to be trained and work in a Biosafety 3 environment.
The applicant should have a minimum 2 years’ experience working in a Life Science lab or related disciplines with a background in molecular biology and microbiology.
- Expertise in working with mice is highly desirable
- Competency in molecular biology
