As a Packaging Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in new packaging material introduction, qualifying packaging material, creating specifications and improvement efforts in a high volume biotech production environment. You will work with Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, and other engineering groups to develop solution for packaging requirement for new products. You are required to provide guidance to manufacturing packaging process, sustain and improve existing products.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Consults with Supply Chain and, Engineering & production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging.
  • Develops or co-development of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval.
  • Draft and perform Packaging stability studies and review/write Work Instructions for existing and new products.
  • Define efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, specifications, test plans, and key performance indicators for high volume disposable products
  • Construct and execute controlled experiments (including DOE's) and test plan for packaging material
  • Work cross functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Quality to optimize cost, yield and performance on packaging reliability
  • Involve in selection and qualification of critical suppliers for packaging and material changes.
  • Partnership with other departments to manage supplier production process/automation development.
  • Work with either internal partners and critical suppliers, troubleshoot packaging issues related to yield, quality and throughput.
  • Support sustaining and continuous improvements for packaging and consumables requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:


B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or degree in related field in packaging with at least 5 years of relevant experience in packaging development, design, scale-up, improvement and validation. Familiar with various packaging materials and understand their characteristics, handling and safety requirements.

  • Experience in managing multiple packaging projects in a cross-functional environment
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals while working across departments is required.
  • Work experience in biotech or medical device field desired.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations such as ISO13485,  FDA and QSR
  • Microsoft Office 2010; Excel & Word, Access
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent team player with cross functional skill set
  • Excellent communication; strong ability to communicate efficiently & effectively with all levels of management
  • Excellent reporting skills
  • Result oriented
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing in a high tech consumables industry desired.
  • Good interdepartmental communication skills and documentation skills are required.
  • Proficient in Auto CAD, Solid Works creating product package design and mechanical modeling will be added advantage
