Job Description

Applications are invited for the appointment of Library Technology Specialist at the SMU Libraries, Singapore Management University (SMU).  We are seeking for an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced information professional with strong analytical skills, agile and flexible approach to working with technology and ability to adapt to an evolving environment to administer and manage library systems, technology-enhanced learning spaces, library services platform, discovery services and other related library technology services to join our team.  You will work collaboratively with the entire Library team and other stakeholders to proactively identify and creatively implement and manage new & existing technologies that support learning, teaching and research activities at SMU. 


  • Management and administration of library technologies
    • Daily administration, upgrading, customization and maintenance of library technology systems in SMU Libraries (Li Ka Shing Library and Kwa Geok Choo Law Library).
    • Support, monitor and resolve technology related requests and issues raised by library staff and services.
    • Liaise with colleagues across the Library to understand needs and to gather requirements to find appropriate innovative digital solutions and vendors to provide support on solutions.
    • Provide out-of-office hour support as and when required.
    • Any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor, University Librarian or other senior staff, as and when required.
  • Proactive engagement in emerging technology trends
    • Monitoring best practices and trends in emerging technologies.
    • Proactively research, recommend and develop/adapt/implement technologically innovative solutions to enhance user experience.
    • Evaluate and assess technology products/services as and when required to ensure the library provides the best possible user experience.
  • Project Planning and resource utilization
    • Plan, prioritize and manage multiple initiatives and projects.
    • Develop, establish and oversee procedures and work standards for troubleshooting, reporting and tracking.
  • Collaboration with SMU community
    • Work collaboratively with staff, faculty, students and other divisions/research centers within SMU in the identification and development of appropriate innovative solutions.
    • Lead technology-related teams and/or actively participate as a library representative on campus committees and teams when required.
    • Participate on internal and/or external committees to provide feedback on issues that impact systems and applications.
    • Provide out-of-office hour support as and when required.
    • Any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor, University Librarian or other senior staff, as and when required.


  • Candidate must possess at least a Professional Certificate/NiTEC, Diploma in any Computer Science/Information Technology or equivalent field of study.
  • Fresh graduates are welcomed to apply.
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills, including ability to liaise with colleagues and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse population of staff, faculty and students.
