Job Description

The National Institute of Education (NIE) invites suitable applications for the position of Clinic Manager, NIE Wellness Centre in the Psychological Studies Academic Group. The position is on a 2-year contract.


The NIE Wellness Centre is seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to serve as its Clinic Manager. The NIE Wellness Center was established in 2003 as the NIE Psychology Clinic and later revamped in 2012 as the NIE Wellness Centre.  It offers affordable psychological services and counselling of a high standard to National Institute of Education trainees, Nanyang Technological University staff and students and to the general public. The primary function of the NIE Wellness Centre is to train all graduate students from the Masters of Arts (Applied Psychology) and Masters of Arts (Counselling and Guidance) programmes. Hence, the centre is designed with state-of-the-art equipment, and is staffed mainly by trainee psychologists and counsellors. All trainees are supervised by faculty from the Psychological Studies Academic Group at NIE who are Registered Psychologists listed on the Singapore Register of Psychologists (Singapore Psychological Society), or are registered with the Singapore Register of Counsellors (Singapore Association for Counselling).

Requirements

 At least a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology and at least 2 years of clinical supervision experience.

 Should be registered or eligible for registration as a psychologist with SRP and/or as a counsellor with SAC.

 Have a strong practice and knowledge base in psychological interventions and counselling techniques to provide services within an individual, couples, family and/or group counselling setting.

 Have specific training in or familiarity with a variety of psychological assessments including personality assessment tools, cognitive assessment tools, literacy assessment tools, etc.

 Have a strong knowledge base on community resources, suitable referral organizations and inpatient/outpatient health systems in Singapore as well as the ability to liaise with referral agents, other organizations and community professionals.

 Experience with client information systems and report writing.

 Possess abilities and skills in the following: verbal and written expression, information technology, interpersonal relations, problem solving, decision making, marketing, and financial management.

 Demonstrate strong administrative management and leadership skills. Administrative management experience in a counselling or healthcare setting is preferred.

Responsibilities


 Marketing and Business Development of Centre’s services: Promoting the centre via orientation and educational mental health workshops and seminars to the public, community agencies/hospitals, other healthcare providers and other internal programmes at NIE to ensure a variety of referrals to the centre to meet the training requirements of both Masters programmes.

 Maintaining Ethical Standards of Care and Services: Training all practicum students in the ethical standards of care and professionalism expected at the NIE Wellness Centre. Being a member of Pastoral Care Management in NTU to update and monitor the latest standards of care in service delivery.

 Overseeing Clinic Operations: In conjunction with the clinic administrative officer, planning, organizing, directing and evaluating all centre activities on a daily basis. Reviewing and developing policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation of the centre.

 Site Supervision of Practicum Students: Supervising the clinical work of Trainee Counsellors and Psychologists as needed. Reviewing, screening, and allocating referrals to practicum students. Directly supervising emergencies cases.

 Collaborating with Internal NIE programmes: Closely working with programme offices at NIE, to provide treatment that will meet the mental health and academic performance needs of the student teachers within NIE, in an efficient and professional manner. With more challenging client cases, conducting home visits to ensure the psychological and physical safety of our student teachers.

 Support with Clinic Research Activities: Providing faculty with the administrative support needed for research activities taking place in the NIE Wellness Centre.

 The Clinic Manager will report directly to the Head of the Psychological Studies Academic Group (PSAG) and closely collaborate with faculty members in the PSAG.
