Job Description

  • Assist CTE Director to conceptualise, drive and execute strategic initiatives for purposeful teaching and learning development, including scanning and selecting innovative and evidence-based practices from the educational literature and reputed institutes of higher learning, as part of regular benchmarking exercises
  • Design, review and coordinate teaching and learning professional development programmes by managing the contributions of CTE team members, multiple instructors and other stakeholders as part of an integrated, holistic approach to faculty development
  • Design and facilitate faculty development sessions with clear learning objectives throughout the academic year
  • Evaluate and measure the learning impact of teaching and learning development programmes using established metrics for participant satisfaction, learning outcomes and changes in participant practices and behaviour
  • Conduct pedagogical consultations, class observations and/or collaborations to review course outlines and teaching feedback
  • Identify appropriate teaching and learning professional development opportunities, and manage their funding and sponsorship
  • Assist CTE Director to ensure smooth daily administration and management of CTE’s daily operations and network of professional collaborations within and beyond SMU, with the support of the CTE Administrative Manager
  • Work closely with the CTE Administrative Manager to prepare regular reports on participation rates, trends and feedback on CTE’s programmes, events and initiatives
  • Leverage the use of technology to advance the learning experience of the professional development programmes within the portfolio and/or re-design them in a blended and/or online format


  • Minimum Master’s degree in Education or a related field (PhD degree holders are encouraged to apply) with at least 8 years of relevant working experience, with a strong professional track record
  • Possess strong theoretical and applied knowledge in pedagogy, assessment, learning science and instructional and curriculum design is essential
  • Taught at institutes of higher learning with experience in academic coaching and knowledge of outcome-based approaches in teaching and learning is preferred
  • Familiarity with blended learning strategies with experience in online facilitation using common online web-based EdTech tools (e.g. polling, discussion forums) are an advantage
  • Experience in designing and facilitating pedagogical workshops in active and varied interactive formats, incorporating learner-centric approaches
  • Experience in developing, designing and delivering continuing education and training programmes for adult learners, Demonstrates evidence-based in approach, underpinned by ability to research/innovate on processes and outcomes, to create a significant and informed learning experience
  • Demonstrate strong customer-orientation in terms of the ability and willingness to go the extra mile to deliver value-added experiences at both group and individual level
  • A team player who creates synergy among team members with varied skill sets
  • Display persuasive communication and coaching skills to engage stakeholders
  • Possess excellent English verbal and written communication skills; position requires frequent reports and liaison with many parties, both internal and external
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask effectively between projects
  • Is organised and thorough in planning and coordinating events, managing projects and anticipating needs. Detailed, conscientious and meticulous in content, presentation aesthetics and delivery
  • Display proficiency in computer software and web-based applications required for all aspects of the job, such as Microsoft Office and Google applications (e.g. Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, etc.)
