Overview:

The Systems Engineer - Infrastructure and Applications will share responsibility for designing, implementing, configuring, managing, administering, integrating, optimizing, maintaining, developing and troubleshooting the applications and systems at SAS. The balance of responsibilities and workload will be achieved by sharing the scope of these systems with two full time colleagues in the team having full responsibilities in either infrastructure or system applications. This position will also share responsibility for general planning, oversight, intelligent analysis and training for the use of applications as well as routine and non-routine system operations and maintenance functions of these systems.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology or Business Information Technology
  • Up to date industry certifications in technology systems
  • Critical thinking, collaborative, innovative and positive work attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English language
  • Minimum four years experience in administration, monitoring and maintenance of software infrastructures and applications is required
  • Knowledge of and experience in design, implementation, configuration, management, administration, integration, optimization, maintenance, development and troubleshooting of the following technologies and systems is required whether they are on-premises, cloud or in a hybrid architecture:
    • Equipment housed in data centers, networking closets, master and intermediate distribution frames
    • Telecommunications and active networking equipment including core and edge routers, switches etc.
    • Wireless networking equipment including controllers, access points etc.
    • Servers and/or administration and management platforms
    • Firewalls and other cybersecurity frameworks and technologies
    • Technology and communications infrastructure automation, monitoring and reporting
    • Kernel, system and application debugging
    • Linux, Windows and macOS server/data center operating systems
    • Active Directory and other users and system administration applications
    • Google Workspace administration
    • Infrastructure System applications and administration
    • Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
    • Identity Access and Management solutions
    • Cyber, network, server and Endpoint security
  • Knowledge of and experience in implementation, configuration, management, administration, integration, development and troubleshooting of the following technologies and systems is highly desirable:
    • DevSecOps controls, management and related frameworks
    • Scripting languages
    • Stored procedures
    • Advanced spreadsheet skills
    • Backup and recovery
    • Device management
    • Reporting tools
    • Email platforms and protocols
    • Web Technologies
    • Access control
    • Data management
    • Print management
  • Experience in project management is highly desirable
  • Experience in producing high quality documentation, knowledge base and training materials is highly desirable
  • Ability to effectively analyze and resolve root causes of technical problems
  • Ability to organize and analyze data and complex tasks in a systematic manner
  • Able to work diligently, independently, confidentially and under time constraints

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design, review, implement, optimize, manage, monitor and maintain network and server infrastructures, data center hardware and system applications. Oversee practices and processes as well as troubleshoot to ensure integrity, safety and availability of network and server infrastructure and system applications as part of SAS's information systems
  • Primary as well as shared responsibility, as advised by the supervisor, for all periodic as well as ad-hoc tasks and projects to support the needs of school that are linked to systems and infrastructure under this role’s purview
  • Review and analyze evolving business requirements of technology infrastructure, applications and systems. Investigate and propose technological solutions that meet these business requirements, including integrations between applications and systems
  • Recommend new processes or improvements in existing processes and workflows related to applications and systems according to education industry’s best practices and identified needs of SAS
  • Work closely with technology team to encourage the dynamic and creative use of the application and systems implemented at SAS
  • Plan and execute basic and advanced scripting as well as database functions as required/related to the applications and systems
  • Manage, research, analyze, design, test, monitor and implement existing and new features to assist in the effective use of various functions of the technology infrastructure, systems and applications
  • Maintain appropriate and high quality documentation on procedures, configurations and change management
  • Coordinate and administer required training to technology team members and SAS faculty and staff as and when required
  • Coordinate and monitor maintenance and support of the infrastructure, applications and systems with the vendors and other third party support and service providers
  • Maintain an awareness of the latest technological trends and developments in technology infrastructure, applications and systems especially in the realm of cyber and systems security, identity access management, security, communications, productivity, user and device management, access control, payment solutions and any infrastructure related systems and applications
  • Participate in evaluating new software projects to determine impacts
  • Serve as tier 2 support to help desk and school-based specialists on questions and problems with the applications and systems
  • Record all incidents and requests with relevant details in the IT helpdesk system reported via walk-ins, phone calls or emails.
  • Vigilantly and effectively monitoring, evaluating and sharing responsibility with other team members for all incidents and requests reported via the IT helpdesk platform.
  • Working diligently to meet the SLAs (Service Level Agreements) for all reported issues and requests.
  • Analyzing and evaluating all reported incidents and requests for any coordination, collaboration, escalation or delegation required with tier 3 i.e. vendor level support in the team.
  • Corresponding and collaborating closely with other school wide technology teams (Educational Technology and Innovation Coordinators, Educational Technology Coaches and technology team) regarding escalated/re-assigned support tickets and tasks
  • Performing other duties as and when assigned by the supervisor
