Manager (Research Engagement), (3-yr contract), ORTT
This position will have primary responsibilities under the Planning & Policy portfolio within the Office of Research & Tech Transfer (ORTT), as well as secondary responsibilities in the Research Contracting, and Research Capacity Building portfolios arising out of the primary responsibilities. This position may also be required to support other ongoing or new initiatives that might occur from time to time.
This position will be responsible to execute a series of research workshops under the Planning & Policy portfolio. These workshops are platforms that allow SMU faculty from different Schools to interact and share their interests on a common research topic. These workshops may also include external research partners or funders in selected research ideation discussions. These workshops provide opportunities for SMU faculty to network with internal and external stakeholders and bring about greater awareness of SMU research, as well as generate leads for future research funding opportunities.
Planning & Policy
- Research workshops:
- Support the planning for the research workshops which include, brainstorming on the workshop agenda with the HOD and the Vice Provost (Research) and identifying and reaching out to external research partners to be involved in the workshops;
- Execute the workshops, which include logistics planning for the workshops and performing any secretariat duties that may be required; and
- Support post-workshop follow-ups which include tracking and reporting the progress of any follow-up actions from each workshop, as well as facilitating any small session discussions post workshops.
Research Contracting
- Review & negotiate Research Collaboration Agreements (RCAs) resulting from engagements with external research partners through the research workshops
Research Capacity Building
- Plan & execute Internal Research Grant calls resulting from the research workshops, including joint grant calls with external research partners
Others
- Any other support that may be required from time to time.
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in any major.
- 5 or more years of working experience is preferred.
- Prior experience in organizing and facilitating networking meetings will be advantageous.
- Pro-active, independent and resourceful with strong decision-making skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Meticulous, attention to detail, and exercise care in delivering quality work
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills to be able to communicate effectively with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Proficient in the use of online meeting platforms for virtual meetings such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx
Other Information
Candidates who do not possess the stipulated qualifications but have relevant work experience may still apply. Remuneration and appointment terms shall commensurate with qualifications and experience. SMU reserves the right to modify the appointment terms where necessary.
