School Principal (Station in China)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
LEADERSHIP
- Collaborates with the academic heads and IB programme coordinators to review and implement the school’s curriculum;
- Provides students, faculty and staff within the division with a rigorous academic program and ensure that the evaluation of student assessment be performed and the learner profile modelled;
- Supervises teachers and other direct reports to ensure student learning, provide feedback on performance, encourage professional development and support and supervise teachers through regular visits to classrooms;
- Recommends faculty appointment renewals and non-renewals to the Head of School;
- Develops and meets annual goals, discussed with and set by the Head of School, in support of the strategic plan;
- Completes an annual written self-appraisal against annual goals and job description;
- Works with the academic heads and IB programme coordinators on suitable teaching assignments of academic staff.
MANAGEMENT
- Runs the day-to-day operations of the academic functions of the school;
- Manages student admissions, discipline and the pastoral care programme;
- Ensures compliance with the IB programme accreditation standards, implement procedures outlined in the school handbook, and action steps highlighted in the strategic plan;
- Schedules and delivers parent meetings, conferences and timely communication;
- Develops, with the Head of School, the school budget within approved parameters;
- Updates parent/student handbooks with recent policy changes;
- Assumes other responsibilities assigned by the Head of School.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- An outstanding educator;
- A Master’s Degree in Education, Education Administration or Curriculum Studies;
- A minimum of ten years teaching experience, with at least five in a senior administrative role;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability and desire to work collaboratively with the school community;
- High proficiency of Chinese language, both in oral and written communications to work with local authorities and management/staffs;
- Strong understanding of Chinese culture and values;
- Experience in the IB programme and job specific professional arenas;
- Experience in developing and implementing professional development;
- Highly organised with excellent writing, technical and communication skills;
- Experience with the IB programme development and implementation, (i.e., academic counselling).
