Assistant Manager, Technical
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) is seeking to hire an Assistant Manager responsible for overseeing and assisting in the technical and administrative operations of the school. The primary goal is to facilitate and ensure seamless and secure operation of the laboratory, enabling faculty, researchers, and students to achieve their academic and research goals in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the school faculty, research staff and students in carrying out their research activities including operating, maintaining & training of various lab equipment.
  • Upgrade, optimize and troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Design and set up undergraduate teaching experiments including preparing materials, performing lab trials, conducting and supervising laboratory lessons.
  • Update lab manual and experimental procedure whenever there is a need.
  • Guide junior support staff and teaching assistants to ensure the constant good quality of work deliverables.
  • Ensure safety standards in the lab are compliant with ISO regulations and carry out regular lab inspections.
  • Ensure adequate lab consumables and manage purchasing of materials and inventory control.
  • Ensure good laboratory housekeeping and safe laboratory practices.
  • Propose and source suitable equipment for undergraduate and research laboratories.
  • Liaise with suppliers on equipment setup, repair and maintenance.
  • Carry out strategic budget proposal, tracking expenses associated with lab equipment and consumables.


Skills and qualifications:
  • Degree in chemical engineering or process or technology with at least 5 years' experience
  • Experience in setting up new lab or equipment is preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in handling, operating and maintaining scientific & laboratory equipment such as ICP, Chemisorption and Physisorption Analyzers, Pumps, Chemical Engineering Unit Operation, SEM, TEM, Gas and Liquid Chromatography, etc.
  • Conduct training for new users, guide inexperienced users in operation of laboratory equipment
  • Support the manager to perform diagnostic tests and in-house repair process in the event of equipment failure, engage vendor for periodic calibration and preventive maintenance
  • Effective record keeping of lab chemicals, consumables, assets and equipment maintenance records
  • Laboratory support and management, with experience in writing standard operating procedures and risk assessments
  • Manage projects and lab tours
