Senior Assistant Manager / Manager, Graduate Studies Career Development Office
The Nanyang Business School (NBS) Graduate Studies strategy is grounded on boosting NBS's visibility in the area of innovation, technology, and leadership. The position holder will be a key component of the department's (Graduate Studies Career Development Office, GSCDO) mission, which is the ability to provide world-class career services to post-graduate students in helping them find the ideal job after graduation.

He/She is responsible for providing career services to the Master of Science in Business Analytics ("MSBA") Programme to ensure students are properly coached to become successful in their job-search process. Additionally, the position holder will also be responsible for managing employer relations with key players in several key sectors (International ex-China, hospitality, non-profit), to source for suitable jobs and internship roles for all GS students interested in these sectors. Along with this, the position holder will be responsible for providing sector insights and sector consultation to all GS students interested in these sectors.

Along with this, the position holder will be responsible for providing sector insights and sector consultation to all GS students interested in these sectors.

Responsibilities:

Career office strategy and implementation:
  • Engage with leadership to drive and launch strategy.
  • Operationalize any new strategic initiatives for the career office.
  • Engage with the careers team in providing multi-faceted career work shops, networking events, company presentations, etc.


Drive Business Development and Employer Engagement to secure internship opportunities for the MSBA programme:
  • Work very closely with internal NTU/NBS stakeholders such as respective graduate programmes' Academic Directors, Graduate Programmes and Management Office (GSPMO), NTU Career Office, Alumni Affairs Offices, Development Offices to source for internship placements from existing and new industry contacts.
  • Initiate and build strong partnerships with companies that can provide internships/industry project opportunities for students.
  • Promote the internship opportunities through various available channels and maintain the internship/industry projects portal.
  • Work collaboratively with Academic Directors and GSPMO to ensure the appropriateness of the student's internship in terms of scope, relevance, alignment to academic assignments, and level of responsibility.
  • Allocate and assign the interns to appropriate/relevant organizations, in consultation with Academic Directors. Provide guidance and career counseling to the student on the choice of the internship.
  • Process all paperwork and authorization required by the industry partner and the University to commence the internship module.
  • Communicate and ensure alignment of expectations of the internship/project requirements to all stakeholders including students and industry partners, including but not limited to arranging pre-internship briefings and FAQ sessions for students.


Provide student counselling for all MSBA internship roles:
  • Understand student's internship goals and provide guidance in internship journey.
  • Place students in their desired internship roles.
  • Monitor student's performance and growth during the internship and prepare to intervene with win-win solutions for both student and industry partner.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with the interns as well as the industry partners, including but not limited to regular in-person site visits to the intern's workplace.


Lead operational / administrative support for MSBA internship roles:
  • Ensure timely submission of completed and graded assignments/reports to GSPMO for marks entry for the internship/industry project module.
  • Develop and provide regular updates/reports on internships/industry projects and students' progress reports for analysis to management, Academic Directors etc. Be able to assess and advise the effectiveness of the internships and recommend alternatives if needed.
  • Track and ensure that agreed internship allowance is processed timely and paid to the students by the industry partner.
  • Ensure that all governmental, regulatory and the University's policies and guidelines for internships are fully enforced for example restriction on the number of internship hours for international students during term time.
  • Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to position


Drive Business Development and Employer Engagement to secure full-time jobs and internship opportunities for all GS programs in key sectors (International ex-China, hospitality, non-profit):
  • Develop a strategy to engage employers within these sectors to increase placement rates of our students into the sector
  • Broaden and deepen relationships in these sectors
  • Actively identify opportunities to develop multi-dimensional relationships through MOUs
  • Establish and manage key employer relationships in these sectors by building partnerships with senior corporate leaders (CEO, CHRO, Head of Talent Development).
  • Maintain a deep understanding of market factors (national & global) relative to employer organizations
  • Initiate and build strong partnerships with companies that can provide full-time jobs and internships/industry project opportunities for students.


Provide sector counselling to GS students:
  • Understand student's full-time jobs and internship goals and provide guidance in their job search journey
  • Coach and counsel students interested in the relevant sector / market to ensure readiness for career related interactions with employers.
  • Place students in their desired roles in Accounting/Audit, Energy, Commodities, Industrials and Real Estate sectors.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with the interns as well as the industry partners, including but not limited to regular in-person site visits to the intern's workplace.


Requirements:
  • A degree in any field.
  • Relevant experience of between 5 - 7 years.
  • Extensive experience working with post-graduate students, ideally within a business school.
  • Experience in career services with an Institute of Higher Learning, preferably within a business school.
  • Coaching experience is ideal.
  • Very strong and deep networks with employers.
  • Proven track record of business development in past working experiences including internal and external successful collaborative and leadership experience.
  • Outstanding ability to manage senior stakeholders, as well as interacting with people of varying levels and backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability in working with people from diverse and multi-cultural backgrounds.
  • Possess initiative, able to work as a team player.
  • Meticulous with an eye for details.
